Science Investigation

As part of their work about ‘The 3 little Pigs’, children in Year 1 have been developing their design technology skills to build them a strong house out of our construction materials.

In addition to this they have developed their scientific enquiry skills to investigate which material would be the best to make a waterproof roof.

Maths Morning 16.2.18

Many thanks to the staff, children and families who took part in the year 1 maths morning and made it such a great success. Families had the opportunity of coming into school to find out about how maths is taught with a presentation from Mrs Lindley, our maths lead, followed by time in class working with their child on a range of maths activities.

‘I came to see what level my child was achieving at in maths.’

‘I found this really helpful. Thank you.’

‘I came to engage with our child in the surrounds of school. Thanks for accommodating us!’

‘It was a helpful morning. Thank you.’

Bird Watch

Even the threat of bad weather didn’t stop Y1 from enjoying taking part in the RSPB schools bird watch. Families joined us for indoor and outdoor activities based around the theme of garden birds. Examples of our activities were making bird feeders, constructing bird houses, learning how to draw birds and doing a bird hunt.

A great time was had by all and many thanks for all the volunteers and families who came to help.

Winter Walk January 2018

The snow made a timely appearance during Y1’s winter walk! They had an amazing time developing their scientific understanding to explore seasonal changes in our school grounds.

The walk was topped off with some fun in the snow, followed by a delicious warm cup of soup!

Traction Man November 2017

Using small world and role play to act out scenes from traction man has helped y1 to develop their story language and write some amazing stories!

Autumn Activities October 2017

Autumn Walk October 2017

Year 1 have been enjoying exploring our school grounds during their Autumn walk.

They discovered the changes that are occurring in the world as the season changes to Autumn and focussed on the colours they could see.

They used this as inspiration for their art work in the style of Mark Rothko, and in writing their poetry.

Fruit Kebabs September 2017

After researching healthy eating, the children in year one designed and made fruit kebabs. They developed their food technology skills in cutting and assembling the fruit to match their design.
