What We are Learning in Year 2
We have many exciting opportunities in Year 2 to learn new things and develop our skills. Click on the pictures below to find out all the things we will be doing each term.
Homework
Numeracy homework given at the end of each week is aimed at providing your child with an opportunity to practice their learning and also share their knowledge with you.
Children will bring home weekly spelling homework based on the phonics they will be learning throughout the week. They will then be tested the following week. Please note that your child may not be tested on the same words but on whether they can apply ‘the rule’ e.g. ‘ay’ phoneme – practice day, play, say, but be tested on stay, may, tray etc.
Reading scheme books will be changed weekly. These may or may not have been read in school depending on whether children have taken part in guided group reading.
Please remember that you are welcome to supplement your child’s reading with books from the shared reading boxes which can be found in the corridor between the Year 1 classrooms. We hope these will be used by many children as a valuable resource to support their learning.
Library books are exchanged weekly on Thursday’s. This provides your child with the opportunity to select books of their own choice. Please encourage them to have their book every Thursday to change for a new one.
DB Primary
During this term children in Year 2 will build on the work they had begun in year 1 about e’safety and begin to work on our Virtual Learning Environment: DB Primary. We will send further details about this in the forthcoming weeks.
