Memorable Moments 2024-25
We are very lucky to be able to provide some magical experiences for children at Shaw Cross Infant and Nursery School and would like to share these memorable moments with you.
World Book Day
On World Book Day children were invited to come to school / nursery dressed up as their favourite story book character or go for a ‘bed time story’ theme and come dressed in their pyjamas! Parents/carers of children in Reception to Year 2 were also invited to come into school for our ‘Reading Drop Ins’ to join their child in the classroom to read a book with them. It was lovely to see so many parents/carers attend the event and enjoy reading with the children.
KS1 Gymnastics Festival
Shaw Cross are part of the North Kirklees School Sport Partnership which is aimed at enhancing the PE and School Sport Curriculum. Through this we are able to offer pupils the opportunity to participate in various Kirklees Sports Events. A small group of Year 2 pupils were invited to Panache Gymnastics Club for a 'Gymnastics Festival'. This involved joining pupils from other schools to take part in gymnastics activities developing agility, balance and co-ordination.
Big Garden Bird Watch Event
Parents/carers were invited to come into school and join their child for a fun after-school drop in session in the school hall where they could take part in a number of activities based around the RSPB bird watch theme. The activities included making a bird feeder to take home and hang in their garden/local environment to feed the birds. Thank you to everyone who came and supported the event. We hope you all had fun spotting birds at home over the Big Garden Bird Watch weekend!
Christmas Pantomime
The children have loved all of the festivities at school in December with the highlight being the Christmas pantomime of “Jack and the Beanstalk” at the Academy Theatre.
Reception Bikeability
A group of Reception children had the opportunity to take part in some exciting cycling activities with the Cycle North Team, as part of the Kirklees Bikeability Plus programme. Specialist instructors came into school to run 'Learn to Ride' sessions with the children, taking part in a series of fun activities aimed at building confidence, spatial awareness and dynamic balance skills.
Remembrance Day
The children in Year 2 decorated stones with a poppy design and placed them in the Peace Garden in remembrance of all the Armed Forces, and their families, from Britain and the Commonwealth, who have lost their lives as a result of conflict.
Shaw Cross Choir At "The Big Sing"
Members of our School Choir were given a fantastic opportunity to participate in The Big Sing at Dewsbury Town Hall. The Big Sing is an exciting two hour music and singing workshop, led by a team of music specialists from Musica Kirklees. The Shaw Cross Choir joined children from other local schools to rehearse and perform a range of different songs.
Harvest Festival
The children in Year 1 and Year 2 gave a wonderful performance at our Harvest Festival at St Paul’s Church, Hanging Heaton. It was lovely to see so many parent/carers come and watch the children perform their Harvest songs and readings.
Olympic Sports Festival
A team of children from Year 2 had the opportunity to take part in the Olympic Sports Festival at Batley Sports and Tennis Centre. They joined pupils from other schools in North Kirklees to take part in a number of games/activities all based on developing agility, balance and co-ordination. They did a brilliant job working together as a team competing in all the different sporting activities.
The Great Get Together
Thank you to all our families who came in to school to support this event. The weather held out and everyone was able to enjoy a picnic lunch and then play outside. It was lovely to see so many adults and children in school enjoying time together.
Be Active Week
Despite the poor weather we still managed to have lots of fun during Be Active Week! Children in Year 1 and Year 2 were all amazing on the climbing wall while Reception and Nursery had great fun tackling the bouncy assault course! A huge thank you to all who sent in sponsor money - the money raised will go towards developing our outside school areas and gardens.
KS1 Multi-Skills Festival
Our Year 1 and Year 2 children had a fabulous time taking part in the North Kirklees Sports Partnership Multi-Skills Festival. This was a great opportunity for the children to try lots of PE skills with coaches and sports leaders within our community, and also for us to work alongside children from other local schools.
Kirklees Primary Music Festival
Children in our School Choir had a fantastic opportunity to participate in the annual Kirklees Primary Music Festival. The concert took place at Huddersfield Town Hall and was a joint venture with many other schools from across Kirklees. It was a wonderful experience for the children to sing as part of a large choir on an actual stage with live instrumental backing and a professional conductor.
